Puerto Montt

Puerto Montt

The Cochamo valley has a striking similarity to Yosemite Valley in USA, due to its granite domes and old-growth forests. Explore La Junta valley and trek among some of the most picturesque granite peaks: Anfiteatro, Arco Iris and Trinidad Hills. This valley is also one of the world’s three remaining virgin temperate rainforests; and it has astonishingly beautiful waterfalls. Trails are more than 300 year old and were used between the Argentine border and Chile’s northernmost fjord, Reloncaví. According to legend Cochamó was a track once followed by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The excursion takes us around Lake Llanquihue. This is the third largest natural lake in South America and second largest in Chile. The Lake is surrounded by several small towns and magnificent scenery, including Osorno and other volcanoes. We will stop to visit some towns.

From Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas, cross the Chacao Channel by ferry and drive to Puñihuil on Chiloé. Take a small open boat to visit the colony of Magellanic and Humboldt penguins (and other marine life). Visit a few sights in the city of Ancud before returning.

Walk through Padre Hurtado, President Ibáñez, and Angelmó markets. Observe the products and interact with the friendly local people. Also visit the square and cathedral. There is an opportunity for a traditional lunch (at your own expense). All transportation by private coach.
