This tour combines the Punta Arenas city tour with a visit to Rio de los Ciervos Farm. We begin our tour at the Maggiorino Borgatello Museum* to gain an understanding of Punta Arenas, Chile’s southernmost city. This is a Salesian Society museum of natural history and pre-Hispanic ethnic groups. Its collections include ethnic Patagonian artifacts, examples of the region’s flora and fauna, as well as displays on the social and economic history of the area. The tour continues with a visit to the impressive above ground cemetery, with its elaborate tombs, (where we learn more about Patagón culture), and then to the monuments to The Ovejero (The Sheep Herder), Ferdinand Magellan, and Croatian Colonists, among others. Most of this area’s inhabitants descend from immigrants from Croatia, Spain, Italy, Germany, England and Chile’s Island of Chiloé. We then visit Mirador Cerro La Cruz (the Overlook from the Hill La Cruz), where you enjoy the panoramic views of the city and the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego. For our last stop in town, we visit Plaza Muñoz Gamero, the main square. Then we proceed 5 miles south of Punta Arenas to the Estancia Los Ciervos, a large country estate and ranch. Here we learn about the settlers’ history and traditions as we explore the local museum and grounds. Enjoy every moment in this marvelous Estancia. After this historic tour, we are treated to a typical Patagonian barbecue (Asado Magallánico), and perhaps a Chilean Dance Show**. Then back to the pier or your hotel. *If the Salesian museum is closed, another museum will be included. **The Chilean Dance Show in the Estancia, is offered for groups of more than 15 travelers.   Note: It is essential that you wear layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion, windbreaker, sunglasses, hat, and sun protection.
